Embroidery FAQ

How long does it take?

Custom embroidery usually takes 2-3 weeks to complete, but is based on size/complexity. Please allow more time around the holidays or if your piece is particularly complex.

What materials do you use?

All embroideries are created using cotton fabric, including Kona cotton or cotton twill. Single strand DMC thread is used in all embroideries.

What will you embroider?

Custom pet portraits and animal portraits are my specialty. Face and neck are usually the best option to get the most amount of detail and render a great likeness of your pet. If you have something different in mind, nothing is too weird! Send me a message and we'll work on making your project happen.

How is the embroidery displayed?

Custom embroideries are shipped in an faux wood display hoop. Projects can also be shipped without hoop if you desire to frame yourself.

How much is shipping?

All shipping is $10 within the US. Rush shipping is available upon request. Please contact for quote if shipping outside the US.

How does payment work?

All payments are requested through Venmo at shelby-elizabeth-art, or via my website. You can select payment of total price upon booking, or pay a $50 deposit with the balance due before your custom piece is shipped.

Do you have a contract?

Yes, for orders of $300+ or upon request, a contract will be sent and agreement is required before artwork can be started. The contract protects both the client and the artist, and lays out expected due dates as well as other general info. Contracts are also required when initial payment is made via deposit. View a sample contract here.

Any tips for making my artwork the best it can be?

Yes! Great photos are the most important thing for an amazing piece. The better the photo, the more detail I can see and the better the final artwork. The best photos are high resolution with natural lighting, with the eyes clearly visible! Communication is also very important in ensuing you get an amazing piece of art you love forever!

What do I need to start?

When you are ready to book, please email a great photo of your pet to shelbyelizabethart@gmail.com and fill out the Custom Embroidery Request form.

The better the photo, the better the drawing! Pet photo taking tips are available upon request as well.

Once agreed, a 25% deposit is required upon booking, and the rest is due before the artwork can be shipped. You are under no obligation whatsoever until payment has been made and the drawing has been started.
